79: spring blooms

lilacs 5

Today my plans are to do some garage sale-ing, hit up the farmers market, and attend my beautiful friend’s wedding this evening.  I went for a walk last night to see those lilacs I mentioned before, and I wanted to show you the beautiful display I get to live right around the corner from.

Motherhood

The Craigleith Depot is a local heritage landmark located between Blue Mountain resort and my beautiful Georgian Bay.  It’s a beautiful building in itself, and the museum contained inside holds many interesting facts about the area, but my favourite part of the depot is what lines its pathways.

craigleith depot The Depot is located right next to the Georgian Trail, which runs from Collingwood to Meaford following the shoreline.

Along this particular stretch of trail are hundreds and hundreds of lilac bushes, and there are small trails leading off occasionally to head back to the road.

I actually caught them a bit late this year, so some of the lilacs have started dying off, but there are still millions of blooms along the path, and the scent is intoxicating.

I picked the fullest blooms I could find and brought them home for my mantle.  We’re quite a ways into Spring by now so I figured it was probably about time for a spring theme on the mantle.  It probably struck some passerby's strange that a visibly pregnant woman was fighting her way into the bushes to cut down the nicest blooms (I’ve got the scratches to prove it!), but it was well worth it for the bouquet I finally got.

And in their current place gracing the mantle.

Have a wonderful long weekend!

Lilacs are awesome! I like this post a lot, but when you wrote "Craigslith" I thought you were saying "Craigslist" but with a lisp and I sat there holding my coffee wondering what was going on here on the internet. I'm okay now. I figured it out.
