I had a bunch of DIY gift ideas I was working on before Christmas, but never got around to finishing/publishing them. Over the next few weeks I’ll hopefully get the chance to post a few of them.
Today’s DIY gift idea is easy to throw together, and with a little creativity in the packaging, can be a fantastic gift on its own or as part of a compilation.
Black Forest Brownies in a Jar
In a 1L jar, layer:
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
In a separate cellophane bag, add:
3/4 cup dried cherries
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Depending on the type of jar you use, you could create a fabric topper for it (canning jars) or create fun labels with the instructions. I like to use containers like this:
Add a label or tag with the following instructions:
In a large bowl beat together:
1 cup melted butter
1 tsp vanilla
Add in the jar mixture and mix until combined. Before baking, stir in the cherries and chocolate chips. Pour batter into a greased 9x13 pan and bake at 350 for 25-35 minutes.
Mix until well combined. Grease a 9×13 pan. Spread batter evenly and bake at 350 for 22-25 minutes or until done.
