back and better than ever

3 days

I’m finally starting to feel myself again and have started to catch up on my sleep now that she’s settling into a bit of a routine, so I’m ending my 2 week blogging maternity leave.

As promised, I’ve been working on Em’s birth story, however it turns out I have a lot more to say than I originally thought so I’m breaking it up into a couple of posts. Hopefully the first will be up tomorrow, and the rest will follow promptly (fingers crossed).

Today Emily is 15 days old (15!) and I’m proud to say she is getting cuter and chubbier every day. At her 5 day appointment she was measuring 6lbs 7oz (only 4oz down from her birth weight) and at her 10 day appointment she was tipping the scales at 7lbs. It’s nice to know that she’s gaining so nicely on those days it feels like I’m feeding her 24/7!

Today was a big day of ‘first’s’ for Em. This morning was her first time going to church (other than when we stopped in to visit friends on the way home from the hospital when she was 12 hours old) and she was SUCH a good girl. She actually fell asleep in her car seat (which she hates) during the music, and then she stayed sleeping/quiet while cuddling Mum until the end of service. Considering how she normally likes to cluster feed whenever she’s in a new place or around new people, it was a fantastic morning for her (and me!).

Next, we spent part of the afternoon at the beach with friends from church. She didn’t actually see or touch any of the sand or water (or get exposed to any sun, don’t worry) but she was there in all her summer dress glory (sorry no pictures! It’s hard with a newborn and a DSLR!).

I’m hoping tonight is a good night for us in terms of feeding and sleep as tomorrow I’d like to get some good walking in with the stroller. My stitches are nearly healed and I don’t feel them at all anymore, so I’m ready to start getting more exercise. I’ve already lost all of the weight I gained during the pregnancy, but I’m feeling really saggy and un-toned so I’m hoping some walking will start things in the right direction (up!). Plus Emily likes constant movement so she should enjoy more trips in the stroller.

Please come back tomorrow as I promise I’ll get a post up and slowly return to more regular posting. I’ve got some non-baby related (can you believe it!?) projects around here that I’d like to get working on so hopefully in the next few weeks I’ll be back in full form.
