snowed in

Winter doesn’t officially start for another 8 days and I think kids in our area have had about 5 snow days so far this season.  Needless to say, we’ve been sticking it pretty close to home since Craig came back from overseas to keep our little family safe.  My poor husband has had to dig our vehicles out of the snow multiple times a day for the past week, just so we can get out to church and the grocery store.

Tomorrow morning, we’re getting away for a little mini vacation in Niagara Falls for some rest and to finish up our Christmas shopping in the States.  I was looking forward to getting away from the constant blizzard, but from the sounds of it, those to the south of us are starting to enjoy the same storms.  I probably won’t be posting at all while we’re gone, so I wanted to give a short update about what we’ve been up to the past few days.

We quickly had a family photo taken after he got home so that we could order our Christmas cards.  They won’t be arrive in our mailbox until around the 20th, but we hope people will be understanding and just happy that they’re getting a photo of all three of us.

Here’s a sample (although not the actual card we ordered, just to keep it a bit of a surprise!):

Craig has taken over for all of Emily’s nightly baths now, and if she ever takes a bottle, he’ll probably give her a nightly bottle too.  After some initial tears and uncertainty on her part (mostly due to being way past her bed time), Emily has really taken to him and he’s even taken care of her alone for a little while while I got some grocery shopping done on Saturday.

I’ve been really hesitant to mention to people that Craig is/was in Afghanistan (simply because I don’t WANT people to know, but also because I didn’t have any problems with it, so didn’t need extra attention or help) but I decided to mention it while booking our hotel reservation for this week.  I had already gotten us a good deal ($60 a night with a $45 credit for the Keg restaurant), but I mentioned in my booking request that Craig had just returned from Afghanistan and we were coming to the hotel for a short vacation to reconnect and wondered if they had any free upgrades they could give us.  They offered us a king suite for both nights that comes with a whirlpool tub.  Awesome!

I know I promised a post with all of my handmade Christmas gifts and ones I love from the blogosphere, but it’s going to have to wait until next week!  Check back then for some cute (I think) treats, sewing projects and gift baskets I’m compiling!
