77: nursery progress – trim and moulding

My parents put crown moulding up in the baby’s room a few weeks ago to add some interest to the ceiling (it’s a popcorn ceiling…:( ) and today my Mom and I got around to finally painting all of the moulding and trim in the room. It’s looking better every day!

Motherhood

In case you’ve forgotten, here’s where we started in January:

Office Before

Yikes! It was blue (Craig’s pick!), and filled with our crap stuff. Once we moved a lot of the stuff to storage, we were able to paint the walls (and see the floor!), and ever since we’ve been moving forward in leaps and bounds. It is without a doubt my favourite room in the house right now. We’re really committed to keeping her room just for her stuff – wherein our bedroom is also our home office and library – so it’s also really open and inviting.

Here’s the room after we had moved out most of the stuff and primed the walls:

We were looking for a low VOC/VOC free paint, so we chose Sherwin Williams Harmony paint, and had it tinted in ‘Rice Grain’ (SW 6155). It looks a lot darker than normal in the following pictures because I took them at 10pm at night, but one of the things I love about this colour is it looks so different throughout the day; sometimes it’s a light beige, sometimes more of the subtle green colour comes through.

We used Behr Premium Plus Ultra in Ultra Pure White for the trim paint. I wanted something really crisp and white to help make the wall colour pop, and I am loving the results!

Now that the walls and trim are finished, we can permanently move the furniture up against the wall and start decorating! I’ve got some things planned for the walls and for hangings from the ceiling, and I’ll make sure I document them on here when they happen. Below are some photos of the room as it is now – still lots to do, but nice to see so much progress!

We still don’t have a mattress for the crib yet, and it’s still filled with fabric and frames for all of my projects (see below), but for the most part, we’ve got everything we’d need if she came today. She better stay in there as she’s got a lot more growing to do, but it’s definitely reassuring to know that we wouldn’t be scrambling if she came early!

What a soothing wall colour - much better than the blue. Glad to have found another Canadian blog - I am adding you to my blog roll!
